Embark on an excursion that unveils unique life-changing development initiatives in Siem Reap. We take guests to Kompheim village to witness exceptional projects that improve the living standards of the underprivileged. We set off on a cycle ride to the home of our host family, followed by participation in the creation of a delicious home-cooked Khmer lunch. We then stroll around the village and visit HUSK Community School, followed by a workshop to learn about a bottle building project. Next, we head to SATCHA, the first Cambodian handicraft centre, to see the output of fifty-plus artisans who create amazing products, including stone and wood carvings, jewellery and fabrics. The designs combine traditional Khmer and more contemporary styles. These are sold internationally, providing an income through sustainable practices. The site is also eco-friendly, having been built out of bamboo. Ahead of the return to the hotel, we enjoy dinner at Spoons Café, a social enterprise that supports underprivileged Cambodians to become independent through education, training and employment opportunities in the hospitality industry. As well as helping young people to gain employment, Spoons provides customers with an authentic Khmer dining experience.

Private Half Day Tuk Tuk Angkor Wat

No trip to Cambodia is complete without exploring iconic Angkor Wat temple. This half-day tuk tuk tour introduces us to the jewel in Cambodia’s temple-studded crown, followed by a visit to root-riddled Ta Prohm. From the hotel, we jump in our tuk tuk and drive to Angkor Archaeological Park and head straight to mighty 12th century Angkor Wat. Standing as the world’s largest religious structure, the ancient Khmer Empire capital is a sprawling city that is home to an impressive Hindu temple complex, baths, a library and other crumbling structures. Our next stop is Ta Prohm, which was built in the late-12th century by King Jayavarman VII as part of his vast construction programme that led to the creation of Angkor Thom and Bayon. Ta Prohm served as a university and Buddhist monastery. Today, its mystery captures the imaginations of visitors, with parts of the crumbling temple seemingly swallowed by giant roots of the ancient trees that overshadow it.

Please note: Visitors are required to keep their knees and shoulders covered at all sacred sites.

Private Half Day Tonle Sap

Experience life on the revered Tonle Sap Lake as we cruise to one of the floating villages. From the hotel, we drive to the pier to board a wooden boat and cruise across the water. The revered lake – also called the Great Lake – is the beating heart of Cambodia, providing Cambodians with the majority of their protein. Standing as South-east Asia’s largest body of freshwater, it is one of the richest inland fishing areas in the world and is home to more than 149 fish species. It is also a popular breeding ground for many rare and endangered birds. In 1997, it was designated a UNESCO biosphere reserve. It is also home to several floating villages, where people live out their lives on the water. We head to one of them to sail past floating houses, shops, restaurants, schools and even karaoke bars.

Please note: The Tonle Sap water levels vary and this can affect the itinerary. The high level is from mid-July to mid-February and the low level is from mid-Feb to mid-July.

Steer clear of the crowds and explore the less-visited Roluos Group of temples on this half-day tour. From the hotel, we set off to the temples, which sit about 12 km south-east of Siem Reap city. The Roluos Group comprises three temples that once formed the capital of Indravarman from 877 to 889. They offer a look at the earliest definition of Khmer civilisation and today house modern Buddhist monasteries as well as ancient ruins. The three main remaining temples are Bakong, Lolei and Preah Ko, which we are made of brick with some carved plaster reliefs. After exploring the site, we learn about local handicrafts with a visit to Prolung Khmer. The pottery and weaving centre produces a range of kramas and ceramics, set up as a training centre between Cambodia and Japan. We then return to the hotel.

We start at the impressive South Gate before heading to Bayon. The temple is home to 216 giant smiling faces carved into stone. Next, we visit 11th century Baphoun, which already sat on the site when the city was created, and the Elephant Terrace and the Terrace of Leper King. Shrines and other religious structures sit at the 700 metres peak, which boasts simply spectacular panoramas of the surrounding countryside and across to Thailand. Sitting off-the-beaten-track, Preah Vihear also boasts very few other visitors. After lunch at a local restaurant, we return to Siem Reap.

Private Full Day Banteay Srei & Beng Mealea

Embrace your inner Indiana Jones and head deep into ancient jungle to explore hidden temples. In the morning, we drive out of Siem Reap about 77 km through vast countryside to Beng Mealea temple. Engulfed by nature, this 12th century temple was built under Suryavarman II and is enclosed by a moat measuring 1.2 km by 900 metres. Built to the same floor plan as Angkor Wat but on a smaller scale, this almost-forgotten temple comes without any of Angkor’s crowds. The site spans more than 1 sq-km and is largely overrun by vegetation. After lunch at a local restaurant, we head to Banteay Srei temple. It is called the fabled pink temple of women because it is made of pink sandstone and considered a tribute to the beauty of women. We then make a short visit to nearby Banteay Samre temple on our return to the hotel.

Please note: Visitors are required to keep their knees and shoulders covered at all sacred sites.
