Exciting Eco-Excursion to Save Bali’s Turtles and Mangroves

Experience a unique excursion that benefits both wildlife and nature on Serangan Island, south of Sanur. We head to the Turtle Conservation and Education Centre, a pioneering initiative that combines environmental education with active conservation. Our visit provides an inspiring look at how awareness and action can protect endangered sea turtles. Tourism fees also contribute directly to supporting the local Serangan community in creating sustainable alternatives to the traditional turtle trade.

Following this illuminating visit, we continue to Rove Garden, where innovative projects support the preservation of mangrove forests. We learn about vital efforts to reduce plastic waste, plant mangrove seedlings and promote awareness of the mangrove ecosystem’s importance. A highlight of this visit is the opportunity to adopt our own mangrove tree – leaving a personal mark on a reforestation project. The focus of this facility is the mangrove arboretum, a specialised botanical garden dedicated to mangrove protection. This immersive activity deepens understanding of the crucial role mangroves play in maintaining environmental balance. This rewarding excursion is perfect for travellers who want to make a positive impact while enjoying their holiday.

A fascinating day of cultural exploration begins at a traditional Balinese house compound. This gives an illuminating insight into the philosophy of building homes that incorporate religious concepts and fine architectural elements. We are also taught the art of lontar, Balinese manuscript written on a palm leaf. We can have our names written on a leaf as a memento of our visit. It is then time to undertake a spiritual journey. We will be given a sarong to wear as we take offerings to a shaman’s home.

We start with a spiritual consultation, followed by a purification ritual and finally, a healing session conducted by a revered shaman. With our minds enriched, it is time to refuel our bodies in a fun cooking class, including lunch of the dishes we have created. A stroll around the village to absorb local life is followed by a 60-minute Balinese Massage – a super relaxing conclusion to this excellent excursion.

Uluwatu Temple Visit

Explore one of Bali’s leading temples as the sun goes down, a truly spiritual experience! We head to the southern-western tip of the island to visit the 11th century Uluwatu Temple, one of six prominent shrines recognized as one of Bali’s ‘spiritual pillars.’ This exquisite structure is located on a cliff, 70 metres above the sea with an amazing panorama, especially as the sun sinks into the ocean.

There is also the possibility to watch a Kecak Dance performance near this site. This is a Balinese Hindu dance and music routine developed in the 1930s. Also known as the Ramayana monkey chant, this is performed by a circle of performers wearing checked cloths around their waists who shout percussive chants as they dance.

Afterwards, return to the hotel, or enjoy dinner at an optional restaurant (charged to your own account).

The Beautiful Kintamani

Today’s exploration reveals the heart of Bali’s cultural and physical landscape. First, we visit a traditional Balinese house compound, known as a karang. We then continue to Mas, the island’s capital of wood carving. Next is Ubud, the village of artists and the market where they display their masterpieces. We then follow the road to Kintamani where you will see the beautiful UNESCO acclaimed rice terraces of Tegalalang, as well as imposing Mount Batur. Here we will serve you lunch. On the way back to the hotel, we visit beautiful Goa Gajah Temple.
